Growing up in the 1950s through the 90s it was a nice meeting place where black families gathered for picnics and fun for the whole community. I even recall every 2nd Sunday in July the Hickman county community would gather their as a reunion or sorts and people would come from all over the country. And. Sarah Cannon (Minnie Pearl would occasionally make appearance at the park because that's where she was from.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3404245910754134433.post-4701310445797149992021-04-11T21:17:21.625-05:002021-04-11T21:17:21.625-05:00I believe the park was named for Dr. William A. Ha...I believe the park was named for Dr. William A. Hadley an African American physician who lived in the area. The farm would not have carried the Hadley name after 1864. Miss Hadley married Mr. Clare in 1864 and the farm was known as the Clare place for many years after. So it appears the park was named possibly after the farm and not after the "slave owner" or an individual. I was sad that the outdoor pool was demolished, but found out that the new center included a pool. All I know is Hadley's Park, because as a young girl we couldn't go to Centennial park. I played softball and had dates at the park as a teen. Every Sunday after church in the 80s and early 90s that's where everybody would hang out, especially if you had a car. Prayfully the park is not named after a slave owner. Hopefully some can find out for sure. Regardless I had great memories there.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04531953798804882902noreply@blogger.com
